Environmental Learning Center

The John A. Legnitto Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is an education center, that together with the Recology San Francisco Artist in Residence (AIR) Program, forms the Sustainability Education Program. Here, visitors can learn about what happens to the materials placed in curbside recycling, compost, and landfill bins, as well as explore ways to minimize waste and conserve natural resources.

Located in San Francisco, the ELC contains a gallery, where work from the AIR Program is shown, and a classroom with educational exhibits that serves as the starting point for all tours of the San Francisco Transfer Station and Recycling Center.

Our Mission

Our mission is to offer dynamic educational opportunities that inspire individuals to actively conserve natural resources through both personal and collective action. Through our free public education programs and guided tours, we aim to empower children and adults to drive positive change, fostering a sustainable future for both people and the planet.
